Primary Schools Sports Series
Sports development are committed to providing sporting opportunities throughout the borough. The annual primary schools programme is one example of this whereby it not only increases participation but also gives pupils an opportunity to represent their school across a range of sporting activities. This year our primary schools sports series events are supported by the EveryBody Active 2020 programme along with key sporting partners and are also free of charge to schools.
Wednesday 5th February 2020 – Londonderry Park, Ards, 9.30am to 12 noon
Reintroduced last year, we are delighted to be offering this event again. The blitz is delivered in partnership with Ulster Hockey
Each school must enter a mixed team of girls and boys from P7 (if your school has insufficient numbers to make up a team, pupils from P6 may be included). Each team consists of a maximum of 12 players with 6 on field players and a maximum of 6 subs. Each school should aim to have a minimum of 4 boys in each team as a minimum of 2 boys MUST be on the pitch at any given time.
Friday 14th of February 2020 – Ards Blair Mayne Wellbeing and Leisure Complex, 9.30am to 2pm
Delivered in partnership with Athletics NI, The emphasis within Sports Hall Athletics is on fun and giving ones best for the good of the team. ‘Sportshall Athletics’ takes sport into the exciting playtime world of the child by providing colourful and safe equipment specially designed to fit their needs. It is an enjoyable introduction on the pathway into Athletics. The day will comprise of a number of disciplines including Obstacle Relay, Team Relay, Standing Long Jump, Speed Bounce and many more.
School teams should consist of a maximum of 10 pupils,5 girls and 5 boys from P7 (if your school has insufficient numbers to make up a team, pupils from P6 may be included).
Tag Rugby Blitz
Friday 20th of March 2019 – Londonderry Park, Ards, 9.30am to 12.30pm
This event is delivered in partnership with Ulster Rugby, it is a fun and non-contact version of Rugby, the aim is to increase participation, especially female participation in Rugby. The event will be delivered in a blitz format between schools, the event is always well attended and we hope to see your school taking part in this fun event this year.
Each school must enter a mixed team of boys and girls from P7 (if your school has insufficient numbers to make up a team, pupils from P6 may be included). Each team consists of 16 players with 8 on field players and a maximum of 8 subs. Each school should aim to have a minimum of 4 girls in each team as a minimum of 2 girls MUST be on the pitch at any given time.
Cross Country Challenge
Friday 27th March 2020 – Londonderry Park, Ards, 9.30am-12 noon
Relocated last year to Londonderry Park, it would be great to see the maximum number of schools within the Ards and North Down Borough participating again, in this year’s event. The course will consist of off-road running , running on soft ground and park paths.
The event will run from 9.30am to 12 noon, each school is limited to 1 boys team (8 participants) and 1 girls team (8 participants), with both teams consisting of Year 7 Pupils (if your school has insufficient numbers to make up a team, pupils from P6 may be included).
