Class for Heroes

Given the popularity of our online classes, we thought we would do something to raise money to help the NHS and other frontline staff during the coronavirus pandemic.

And, we would like you to join us on Thursday 16 April just before 7pm (time to be confirmed) for a unique 60 minute exercise class and help raise money for HeroShield.

Who are we helping?

If you didn’t already know a Newtownards company has answered the call for PPE for health workers and other frontline staff. In just two weeks the Shnuggle Management Team pulled together a team from across the province to help with design, development, engineering, production and distribution of face visors, with the first 3000 HeroShields shipped out on 3 April.

A minimum target of 100,000 HeroShields has been set and together with your support we would like to help them achieve this and more.

You can read the full HeroShield story at www.heroshield.net

What are we doing?

We’re going to try something we’ve never done before and run a 60 minute class with 10 instructors.

Each instructor will deliver a 6 minute sequence which will hopefully dovetail seamlessly with the instructors before and after them! From leg to core exercises, upper body to pilates and yoga the instructors will take you through a full body workout as well as incorporating the 3 elements of energy, power and flow in one class.

The result should be a wholly enjoyable exercise class that gives everyone a great workout, is fun to do, but most importantly raises money to help those on the coronavirus front line.

How you can help?

Please encourage your friends and family to take part in our online Class for Heroes which will be aired just before 7pm on Thursday 16 April, finishing before 8pm so you can get outside for the weekly applause for the NHS and other frontline workers.

Each Hero Shield costs 50p to make, thanks to the immense generosity of the partners involved.

Donations can be made via HeroShield's JustGiving page:  https://justgiving.com/crowdfunding/facevisors

So we can track how much is raised, when making your donation make sure you put AND Leisure somewhere on the form, either in place of your name, if you want to remain anonymous, or in the message space.

Thank you for your support for this very worthwhile cause which is important to us all.

Stay safe and keep exercising.

How will these closures affect me?

Please see below how memberships, swimming lessons, courses and bookings will be dealt with in the coming weeks.

How can you help me maintain my fitness and wellbeing during the closure?

Updated 25 March

We have a number of plans in place over the coming weeks to help you keep fit and healthy whilst at home.  We have already launched a shared daily morning class from the very popular Joe Wicks, that will be live streamed at 9am called "PE with Joe".  This is a 30 minute workout for kids of all ages...but teenagers and adults can get involved too!  It's a great opportunity to encourage you and your family to communicate, have fun, inspire, interact, connect and laugh along with each other in your own home.

We have also launched live streams of 3 x RT24 classes throughout the week on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's at 12 noon. These classes are designed to be no longer than 24 minutes but within this time frame you will be expected to perform to your maximum effort. These have proved to be very popular already with almost 250 of you taking part today!

Furthermore, we will very soon be launching an online timetable which will provide a daily class from one of our own instructors at 3.30pm.  We will also be having several "Challenge Days" which will see one of our instructors complete an activity and we will be asking you to challenge them and beat it.  We will be encouraging you to video your attempt and post and share it via our Facebook page.

This situation is new to us all, but we can assure you that we will continue to do our upmost throughout these unprecedented times to help maintain your physical and mental wellbeing as much as possible.

All this information will be available via our Facebook page. Make sure you "Like us" to keep updated with the latest information.
